Andersen Silva's Journal I spent more of my New Year's Eve and Day working on a data issue than I'd have liked, especially since I technically had both days off. Well, at least I did resolve the issue, and managed to get out for a few hours to watch the new "National Treasure" movie with Yesika. It was quite entertaining, and we (and the rest of the theater, by the sound of it) enjoyed it thoroughly. Unsurprisingly, they seem to have left the door open for number three... The Pilgrim himself, Martin Rivas, played a show at the Rockwood Music Hall on the Lower East Side last night, and as it's been a few months since I've seen him do his musical thang, I made a point of going. I got there early enough to catch the last two songs by elizabeth!, an incredible jazz singer and trombone player who gave up her last name for that shiny exclamation point. The pianist, bass player, and sax man were very much talented, too, and elizabeth! was quite nice on the eyes. :-D The room with the stage is rather tiny, and of course there were no unoccupied seats when I arrived, so I found myself having to squeeze around people and have people squeeze around me several times. I did get close enough to the bar to order a delicious Brooklyn Chocolate Stout from a delicious bartender... Mart, Craig, and Eric took the stage after some minimal setup and put on a great set, with Marty alone throwing in the Serious Pilgrim nugget "Hand Grenade." I considered staying to see the next act or two as well, but it was cold last night, and I figured that getting home was a better idea. Turns out that there was another issue with the trains last night, so the train I managed to catch was running about 25 minutes late, so I guess it was good that I left when I did. I definitely want to see Mart again before Arizona... Current mood: Current music: "Pray for the Impossible" by Martin Rivas. |
