Andersen Silva's Journal ![]() Of course that was my train, why do you ask? We were heading home normally yesterday evening, when the lights and the air conditioning both shut down shortly before the train made its stop at Passaic... and never started up again. We were first told that the engineer was going to restart the lights and air, then after fifteen minutes or so we were told that our train wasn't starting at all, and another was coupling with us (and without even having bought us dinner first!) and would push us through the remaining stops. A questionable approach at best, but, hey, as long as I got home... New Jersey Transit slowly came to its senses, though, and had them unload us instead, and board the next train, which was now across the tracks. So I got home about half an hour later than I'd have liked. Frankly, I'd have preferred it if they hadn't played with the lights and air at all and had just continued along the way. I only had two stops to go anyway! Mark L. and I went onsite to an ophthalmologist's office in midtown Manhattan yesterday, a doctor with some taste; not only was his office decorated with modern furnishings, he had three iMacs. His three office workers were quite nice, too. Heh. We rain into some minor issues with getting the three 'virtual' XP machines, running under Parallels, networked together, but eventually I figured it out and Medisoft was chugging away nicely when we left. I finished "The Songs of Distant Earth" last night, and I enjoyed the book a lot. It was wistful, and hopeful, and nostalgic... sorta like me. I even found myself wondering whether Loren had made any recordings to leave behind for the son he'd never get to communicate with. I need to read more Clarke. I've read the "Space Odyssey" novels, of course, and one or two others, but I've tended to favor Asimov and Heinlein and Herbert. I have to get my hands on more of his stuff. Speaking of Earth, Rhonda and I snagged some nosebleed tickets and are going to Live Earth tomorrow! There are going to be a lot of great bands (and some not-so-great ones) at the Giants Stadium concert tomorrow (which is not in New York, by the way), but I'm most excited about seeing the Police and Roger Waters. I heard Al Gore is going to rap with Kanye West, too. No, wait, that's ludicrous. Anyway, it should prove to be an awesome time; we had fun at the last festival we attended, last year, and we're looking forward to this one. :-D Current mood: Current music: "Slow Train to Dawn" by The The. |
