Andersen Silva's Journal Jon and Karin's wedding on Friday was a blast and a half. Jon and I got ready to leave while Joe disappeared. He did make it back to the hotel room with enough time to get his tux on, fortunately, and we left, first for the Sheraton, where Jon wanted to drop some stuff off in his car, and then for the English Manor. On the way there, we noticed an apparently abandoned Budget Inn, and since we had to turn around anyway, we decided to pull over in front of it. Joe and I got out and snapped some pics, joking that we should have stayed there, as it was right around the corner from the Manor. Turned out that the bride and some of her party passed us by and beat us there because we'd pulled over. We arrived ourselves, took a few pictures and made the usual 'not too late' jokes, and generally milled around until it was time to have the 'official' wedding photos taken, which we did outside. After that, more milling about... We groomsmen (Carl, Robert, Devin, and me, and best man Joseph) helped some guests to their seats, and eventually the spectacle began. It was quite a fun spectacle, too. The ceremony itself was short and sweet, non-denominational and clocking in at around fifteen minutes. I think I saw some tears, but nothing too dramatic. I exited back up the aisle with bridesmaid Lauren on my arm, who breathed a sigh of relief when we left the room. Relieved that it was over, and not that she was on my arm... I think. Cocktail hour was much-needed by all, for the food at least as much as for the drink. I convinced another bridesmaid, Robin, to try a tequila sunrise when she saw me with one; I think someone else may have gone for it as well. I hadn't seen Dave in several months, so bumping into him was cool, and I had him and Rachel and some other people join Carl and June and me at our table. I bumped into Scott, too, before the dining room was opened; we had to line up for our introductions, and after the parents, Robin and I went in first, doing a little hootin' and hollerin' to get the crowd going. Heh-heh... Though she hadn't danced a slow dance in a very long time, she and I did fine during the married couple's first dance, as did the rest of the bridal party. I hadn't planned on doing any more dancing, even though the music was much better than that at most weddings (the DJ just had to slip "The Electric Slide" in there, however). Robin and the other bridesmaids tried to get me on the dance floor at one point, and Sherri tried again later. I couldn't say no to Rachel when she urged me to join her in dancing to "Electric Avenue," though, and I just couldn't stop my feet when it was followed by "Take on Me." It was awesome to hear those songs at a wedding! I was exhausted after those two songs, though, and hot and sweaty under the tux jacket I should've taken off first. D'oh! It was only two songs, but I danced frenetically. My calves are still a bit sore... The food was excellent, too. I almost joined bridesmaid Ellen in a second helping of the Châteaubriand, but considering how much I'd eaten at the rehearsal dinner the night before, and at breakfast earlier, it was probably best that I declined. Anyway, I was glad I'd saved room for the cake, and a cookie or two. While I didn't hit the dance floor again, we all enjoyed watching Joe's smooth moves. And soon enough it was time to leave... Joe and I changed into more casual clothes and met a number of partygoers at the Sheraton, where Jon and Karin, among others, were staying. The after-party wasn't quite as boisterous as most had been hoping for, I think, but we still had a nice time hanging out in the lounge and talking 'til about 3 AM. It's always nice to get carded and to be told that I look younger than I really am, but it was really cool to see the look of disbelief on Rachel's face when I said I was 36. lol Joe and I brought Rick to the Holiday Inn, where he was staying, as it was basically across the street from our hotel; we also brought Karin's cousin and her boyfriend with us to the Courtyard by Marriott, as they didn't yet have a place to stay. They did manage to get a room, and we planned to all go together to Karin's parents' home the next day for a post-wedding brunch to which everyone had been invited. We got there well before the bride and groom, of course... and once again there were prodigious amount of food to be consumed, and all of it good. Joe and I left at around 2 PM, and our first stop was the Monmouth Mall, where we dropped off his, Jon's, and my tuxedos. We checked out the new PlayStation 3 in action, too, and Joe tried to stir some kids up by shouting, "Free PS3s!" Heh... From there, we planned on checking out Vintage Vinyl, but we ended up taking a rather indirect route there. Still, we did make it, eventually. I picked up Aimee Mann's new Christmas CD, while Joe nabbed a few items. Put up one or two of my stickers, too... I got home a bit later than I'd intended to, but that was OK. Had some work stuff to do, and unpacking, and laundry... Today was a lazy day. I caught up on "Doctor Who," "Battlestar Galactica," and my Sunday night cartoons; It was nice to see Kool-Aid make another "Family Guy" appearance. Heh-heh... I think all of us in the bridal party had our calendars twisted around, though, because Thursday felt like a Friday, and Friday felt like a Saturday. I think I'm supposed to go to work tomorrow... Why is the town hall lit up for Christmas already?!? I can sorta understand the weekend after Thanksgiving, but the weekend before? Current mood: Current music: "Greatest Hits" by Billy Idol. |
