Andersen Silva's Journal Hey, there's a cute blonde working at the Dunkin' Donuts. Nice muffins, too. I was kinda hoping that France would take the World Cup yesterday, even though I've got some Italian blood in me, but I'm happy for Italy. (Frankly, though, I think the Germany-Portugal game was better.) I'm not so happy about the dunderhead Italian-Americans who felt that the best way to show their support for Italy was to drive up and down the streets of Lyndhurst blowing their car horns repeatedly while other guidos/guidettes held Italian flags out the windows. Being proud of Forza Italia is fine; reinforcing the stereotype of Italian-Americans as loud, ignorant, obnoxious louts is not. If they'd driven past once or twice, I'd have thought, "Heh-heh, cool, I'm not the only one who watched the final around here." But after the tenth time, it was way past annoying. Yes, if Brazil had made it to the final and won, I'm sure the streets of Newark and Harrison and other predominantly Brazilian neighborhoods would have been rowdy, but I don't think they'd have gotten quite so bothersome. Oh, well. Yesterday was Rock and Roll Day, too, at least according to the greeting card industry, and after having been notified of that fact by Theresa, I was inspired to start working on another new song. It still needs some work, but I think I can finish it this week; hopefully, the momentum will lead to my finishing "Six Months" as well, and complete the lyrics to several songs and song ideas that have been floating around for a while now. The new song, tentatively titled "Rock and Roll Day" (original, huh?), rocks a bit like "Not An Exit." Barbara and I attended Rhonda's twin daughters' "sweet sixteen" party on Saturday night. It was a nice affair, though I'd have preferred different music than the teenagers present (and, admittedly, most of the adults, too) wanted to hear. I put together a slide show from pictures that Rhonda provided, and played it from my PowerBook through the projector that Robert graciously provided. I think it went over well, and Rhonda seems to have appreciated it. Well, got to finish getting ready for work. Ah, my vacation starts a week from tomorrow...! :) Current mood: |
