Andersen Silva's Journal

6th June, 2006. 6:06 am. The number of Beast, from the X-Men?

Yes, it's 6-6-06. Get over it. Actually, the "Omen" remake looks interesting, though I don't know if I'll pay money to see it in the theaters. Still trying to make plans to see "The Da Vinci Code" and the aforementioned "X-Men" movie, come to think of it... I did catch "Bram Stoker's Dracula" in the wee hours of Sunday morning, and a TiVoed "Bram Stoker's The Mummy" last night, so I suppose I'm kinda in the right frame of mind for the beginning of the Apocalypse. Although... didn't that start with Dubya's "election" in 2000?

It was twenty years ago today, that Andy learned that he had somethin' to say... Yes, on June 6, 1986, I took part in my first protest by wearing a skirt in my English class at John F. Kennedy High School. No, it wasn't in support of transvestites' rights. Heh-heh... We were protesting the school's dress code, which forbade shorts but allowed girls to wear skirts. What, we argued, was the difference? In the summer heat, it didn't make sense that a girl could try to keep cool by wearing a knee-length skirt, but a boy (or a girl, for that matter) couldn't do the same by wearing knee-length shorts. It took a little time, but the policy was changed, and I'm proud to know that I played a part in that action.

Twenty years later, I have to vote in a county primary. Not as personally satisfying, but a civic duty nonetheless. If Armageddon hasn't started by the time I get home from work, I'll stop by Lyndhurst High and make my selections...

Current mood: nostalgic.
Current music: "Election Day" by Arcadia.
